League City council today will consider creating an ordinance that would prohibit the chaining or tethering of dogs except under certain circumstances, among other measures meant to improve animal welfare.
All week leading up to the Monday Night Football matchup between the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos, ESPN cleverly utilized some late-1990s post-grunge soft rock to tease the game, which represented quarterback Brock Osweiler’s return to the home field of his former team.

I cannot believe the stupidity of adults who would take a group of students to an open beach to go swimming for a field trip, particularly in light of the rip tide warnings that have been going up. This is a completely preventable tragedy. Someone needs to go to jail for this. My prayers go out to the family. I cannot imagine what they must be going through right now.May 29, 2015
Those safety inspections are not new. Not even for trailers. What is new is that they've finally come up with a viable way to enforce this regulation. In typical liberal fashion, now they are unhappy because they can't break the law as easily. And apparently, there is a memory loss problem here. The democrats wanted us to go to state run vehicle inspection stations so that we can make sure our evil cars meet their arbitrary environmental standards. The only thing that kept us from going down that road was the election of republican George W. Bush as governor.Apr 20, 2015
I didn't know the whole transgender thing had crossed into the animal world. A cow is not a steer, folks. A cow is a cow, a steer is a steer, and a bull is a bull. Seriously, congratulations to this young lady. Hard work pays off. Apr 16, 2015
Ms. Proffitt is very wise for her age. I constantly encounter college graduates who are more than capable of solving quadratic equations in their sleep, but are totally incapable of balancing their checkbook, or hand washing their dishes. I have nothing against education. I myself have a B.A. and an M.B.A., but we need to graduate high school students who are prepared to be contributing members of society, not "Stand Up Philosophers" (with a nod to the great Mel Brooks).Apr 9, 2015
When I saw the title for this letter, I expected to read yet another moronic call that "somebody" needs to do"something" without offering anything of substance. I was pleasantly surprised to read instead something with common sense and clear direction. Kudos to the author.

I grew up in Hitchcock, and I've known Chief Hamm more years than either of us care to remember. I also remember Hitchcock when we did all know the police officers on a first name basis. It was a great town to live in. I commend the Chief for remembering that greatness, and doing his best to bring it back. However, it doesn't surprise me in the least. John was always a man who valued friendship over anything else, and understood the need for strong relationships.Jan 31, 2015
The backpack was taken without reason? How about this for a reason? She is the teacher. I was taught that the teacher was to be respected. I am sick and tired of parents who will blame anyone but their kids when the kids get into trouble. Kudos to GCDN for not giving in to the demand to remove the video.Jan 15, 2015
While Little League baseball numbers have been sagging, it is not a sign that youth baseball participation is down. The rise of select baseball tournaments is changing the way youth baseball is played. A first class youth baseball facility on the Island can certainly generate revenue and bring in a lot of out of town money. Witness the parking lots at Big League Dreams in League City on any given weekend.Jan 5, 2015
I always find it ironic that the left is quick to say that one should not be required to produce proof of who you are in order to exercise a "constitutional right to vote", yet demand the very same, if not more, should I desire to exercise my constitutional right to bear arms.
By the way, the so called "constitutional right to vote" is very vague, at best. The numerous amendments to the constitution that address voting only define reasons why one cannot be denied a vote, and never ensure some kind of universal suffarage that everyone seems to think exists. Most of the so called voting rights are not derived from the constitution, but from legislation passed in 1965. And as it is legislation, and not the constitution, that ensures the right to vote, it can be overturned, amended, declared unconstitutional, or simply allowed to disappear at the will and pleasure of Congress and the Courts.
