Lawrence Pedraza
TEXAS CITY — Lawrence Pedraza, 81, of Texas City, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2009, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, November 5, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, November 4, at the funeral home.
Mr. Pedraza was born January 15, 1928 in Alvin, Texas. He lived in San Leon, Webster, Genoa, and back to San Leon where he was raised, finally residing in Texas City. Mr. Pedraza worked as a waiter until it was time to join the Maritime Service, Merchant Marines, until he was called to serve his country. He was in the Army from 1951 to 1952. He served time in the Pacific onboard the Liberty Ship stationed in Okinawa. Mr. Pedraza was also a Korean War Veteran. After his discharge, he returned back to the sea, where received his “Chief Engineer” license working for Sealand Corp., retiring after 21 years. During that time, he met and married his life partner Clementina. Mr. Pedraza enjoyed his life and said “God has been great to me”. He was known as a very kind, generous, and loving man to many.
He was a member of the Texas City Lion’s Club.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ygnacio and Esther Pedraza; brothers Faustino, Ygnacio Pedraza, Jr., and Hector Pedraza; and sister Mary Sandino.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years Clementina Pedraza, of Texas City; sons Lawrence Pedraza, Jr. and wife Toni of Sparks, Nevada and Hector Pedraza and wife Dora of Texas City; daughters Linda Pedraza Carsten of Reno, Nevada and Laura Pedraza-Gooing and husband Jed of Sandy, Or; brothers Manuel, Daniel, Eliseo and Horacio Pedraza; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
