‘I promise not to stay next time’

I was working for Pan American Refinery (Now BP) in 1943. We were told that we were in for a hurricane.
Our engineer department said our buildings would stand winds of 300 mph. So I decided to stay in the plant to see what a hurricane was like.
Sleeping on one of the desks, everything seemed OK until about 2 a.m. Someone came in and said “Open all the windows and don’t cut on any lights.”
One or more of the storage tanks had floated over the firewall breaking lines and oil and gasoline piled up on the downwind side of the building I was in.
The high-voltage lines were arcing and sending sparks very close to the oil and gasoline.
Of course, my prayer was, “Lord, if you’ll get me out of this mess, I promise not to stay next time.” After 60 years, I’ve kept my promise and He has kept His.
