Students in Hitchcock and La Marque donned pink and staged events Friday to raise awareness about breast cancer.
Clad in pink T-shirts, students at Inter-City Elementary School in La Marque walked through the neighborhood around the school.
Students in the school’s Ladies of Distinction and Distinguished Gentlemen clubs will be in the D’Feet Breast Cancer run-walk today in Galveston. The school so far has raised more than $300 for breast cancer research.
In Hitchcock, students at Crosby Middle School released more than 300 pink balloons as they announced the names of family or friends who had cancer.
Eighth-grader Jasmine Spells said she was honoring her aunt, a breast cancer survivor. It’s important for people to support breast cancer survivors and raise awareness about the importance for women to get regular checks, Spells said.
