FRIENDSWOOD — Friendswood City Council members have given the acting city manager the job full-time.
Roger Roecker, who has been the city’s director of administrative services since 1989, received a standing ovation Monday as city council members praised him for his 20 years of service to the city.
“We know what we’re getting with Roger,” Councilman Jim Hill said.
“This is not an unknown. I don’t think, at this time, we can find a better person to be city manager of Friendswood. We don’t have to teach him where the streets are. He already knows.”
Roecker will earn $147,000 per year and a $450 a month car allowance.
Roecker’s hiring comes just months after Friendswood voters approved a change to the city charter that allows the city manager to live outside the city limits. Roecker lives in Pearland, less than five miles away from Friendswood city hall.
Roecker has been serving as acting city manager Bo McDaniel resigned in a dispute with council members.
