TEXAS CITY — A 54-year-old woman locked herself in a room during a brief standoff with police Monday, after she reportedly shot at a man in a Texas City gun manufacturing shop, police said.
Just before 12:40 p.m. the unidentified woman, who police said lives above Freshour Manufacturing in the 1900 block of 20th Street South, walked downstairs into the machining shop and fired a gun at a man, police spokesman Sgt. Joe Stanton said.
The shot almost hit the man, but he was not injured, Stanton said.
The man rushed the woman and took the gun from her, and that’s when the woman fled upstairs into her room and locked the door, Stanton said.
When Texas City police arrived a few minutes later they secured the building and called out the hostage negotiation team.
A negotiator spoke with the woman for about 20 minutes and encouraged her to surrender herself to police.
About 2:05 p.m. the woman walked out, Stanton said.
No charges had been filed Monday afternoon, and investigators still were trying to figure out what led to the shooting.
