Betty Jean Chandler
LA MARQUE — Betty Jean Chandler, fondly known as “Mama Betty” of La Marque, was born January 18, 1941, in Galveston County and passed away on November 1, 2009, in Galveston. Ms. Chandler, a Nurse’s Aide, was a longtime resident of La Marque and attended Hitchcock schools.
Preceded in death by a sister, Equilla Houston and her parents, Alonzo R. “Bustee” Bell and Ruby Chandler, she is survived by her children Joycelyn Chandler and Debra Chandler Smith; 11 grandchildren; a goddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Services will be held at New Hope Bible Baptist Church, 3801 McKinney Ext. in La Marque with visitation being held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 5th and Home Going services at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 6th. Burial will follow at Rising Star Cemetery in La Marque under the direction of Mainland Funeral Home.
