FRIENDSWOOD — Roger Roecker, Friendswood’s acting city manager since April of last year, is expected to be given the job full time when city council meets Monday. Roecker’s hiring comes three months after Friendswood voters approved a change to the city charter that allows the city manager to live outside the city limits.
Roecker, who had been the city’s director of administrative services since 1989, lives in Pearland. The charter change was widely seen as a measure to ensure Roecker would be eligible for the job without having to move into the city.
While he lives in Pearland, Roecker’s house is actually less than 5 miles from Friendswood city hall.
He was named acting city manager after Bo McDaniel resigned in a dispute with city council members.
Roecker had been acting city manager once before, after Ron Cox retired in February 2006.
