‘During his patrol duties … he took pictures’

I personally don’t remember the hurricane but I was told about it through my parents Victor and Agnes (Enge) Dupla before they both passed away.
Dad was a military policeman in the Army stationed at Fort Crockett and mom (a BOI) worked as a waitress and sales clerk for many businesses in town.
They met in Galveston and eventually got married there, but were dating at the time of the storm.
Since Dad was an MP he helped patrol Galveston along with the police department after the storm passed.
He made his way to the area of 15th and Winnie streets where Mom lived with my grandparents. Everybody faired well and survived the storm intact.
It was during his patrol duties that he took pictures of the destruction of some of the buildings downtown and some of the houses destroyed on the east end.
I have those pictures today. It was interesting that all my life my family and I knew of the hurricane of 1943 but never knew it was a secret.
Several years ago I tried to track the storm’s history on the Internet but never saw it. I know why now.
