FRIENDSWOOD — One person died and four others were injured Monday in a head-on automobile crash near Friendswood Country Club, authorities said.
Police, fire and medical crews rushed to the scene at West Parkwood Avenue and Sun Meadow Boulevard at 3:31 p.m., finding a driver dead at the scene, Friendswood police said.
Firefighters used hydraulic tools to free at least one person trapped in the wreckage, and at least one of four survivors was believed to have been critically injured.
As police rerouted traffic in the area around West Parkwood, which is also known as FM 528, emergency crews called two medical helicopters, which carried the four survivors to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston for treatment.
Police had both east and west lanes of West Parkwood closed at 4:20 p.m., waiting for the second helicopter to take flight.
Police withheld names of those involved, pending notification of relatives.
