GALVESTON — They won’t replace all the trees that Hurricane Ike took away, but Saturday’s tree giveaway was a good start.
So good that there will be no more trees to give away today.
The island’s Tree Committee teamed up with TreeFolks to give away 2,000 trees. The free tree distribution was to happen Saturday and again today. By about noon Saturday, all of the trees were gone.
“It was a wonderful day for Galveston,” Galveston Tree Committee Chairwoman Jackie Cole said after the giveaway wrapped up four hours and a day earlier than planned.
Because all of the trees were gone, the planned giveaway for today has been canceled, city spokeswoman Alicia Cahill said.
