Two haunted houses, pet and owner costume contests, candy, games, prizes and pet pictures are slated for the Whiskerville Haunted House fundraiser Thursday and Friday in La Marque.
The event, which will include a family friendly haunted house, is being put on by En Vogue Events at the Whiskerville adoption storefront at Gulfway Plaza in La Marque. All proceeds will benefit Whiskerville Animal Sanctuary, headquartered in Texas City.
The haunted houses will have six rooms, each with a different theme. A tour guide will lead guests through. Outside the haunted houses, volunteers will man games and set up pictures with the Pet Palace Limo and a costumed “Pooch.”
Wydell Dixon founded the sanctuary in 2000 after retiring from a career in the oil business.
En Vogue Events has teamed with Whiskerville volunteers, Party Man DJ, Any Occasion Party Rentals, Idea Party Decorators and Château Polonez in presenting the event.
“We always look for ways to give back to our community,” Candice Graves, of En Vogue, said. “Wydell has such a passion for this cause and organization, and we wanted to do anything we could to help.”
Funds raised at the annual event will help pay for costs at the sanctuary’s two buildings where staff members, many of them volunteers, care for rescued domestic animals. Whiskerville has a “no kill” policy.
Dixon and her staff coordinate health care and find homes for dogs and cats.
“I think what I enjoy most is meeting the people who really, really do care,” Dixon said.
