LEAGUE CITY — The Clear Falls Knights saw their season come to an end Friday night at the hands of the Deer Park Lady Deer.
For the second consecutive night, Deer Park (31-5) scored 10 runs — winning 10-2 — to sweep Clear Falls (23-11) in the second round of the Region III-5A softball playoffs.
After Deer Park got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Knights responded in the top of the sixth inning with three consecutive singles, capped off by Tori Hatten’s second hit of the night, a run-scoring single that scored Madison Ulmer to tie the game at 1.
Clear Falls starting pitcher Corrie Patrick held the Lady Deer bats in check for 41/3 innings before things started to unravel for the freshman.
Patrick was called for throwing an illegal pitch, allowing Haley Harrison, who singled, to advance to second.
After Miranda Rodarate drove in the go-ahead run, Caitlin Plocheck smashed a two-run home run to left.
Another two-run home run by Tyler Galena chased Patrick from the game.
Deer Park knocked its third two-run home run of the inning, courtesy of Devann Hebert, to cap off a seven-run fifth that saw 11 Lady Deer batters come to the plate.
Clear Falls scored its final run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Rachel Bobo led off with a single and advanced to third on two passed balls, setting up Madison Michna, who hit an RBI groundout to score Bobo.
