In just the latest postseason accolade for the standout local trio, Ball High second baseman David Hernandez, Friendswood third baseman Andrew Barba and Santa Fe shortstop Jordan Gunter all received honorable mentions on the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 4A all-state baseball team, which was released Wednesday.

The three were also among the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association’s all-state team for class 4A, where Hernandez was a second-team choice and Barba and Gunter were named to the third team. Seniors Hernandez and Barba were also first team all-district and All-County selections. Gunter, a junior, was a first-team all-district and second-team all-county pick.

Mount Pleasant right-handed pitcher Michael Kopech was named the 4A Player of the Year.

The first-round pick of the Boston Red Sox, who signed with the club, had an 0.47 ERA with 143 strikeouts and 18 walks in 74 2⁄3 innings.
