HOUSTON — There was not much action in the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association’s Juniors All-star Game in the final innings late Tuesday at the Baseball USA complex in Houston.

With the game going too late for Wednesday’s sports section deadline, the final three innings saw just four more base-runners and ended with the Blue Team victorious by the score of 18-6 over the Red Team.

None of the five Galveston County batters recorded hits in the final innings, but two players — Santa Fe’s Preston Plovanich and Clear Creek’s Zach Esquivel — got a chance to shine on the pitcher’s mound.

Plovanich needed just 10 pitches in his one inning to mow down the Red Team’s side in order. Plovanich had one strikeout and forced a ground out and a fly out in his perfect eighth inning.

Esquivel made short work of the three Red Team batters he faced in the ninth inning with two fly outs and a strikeout in a flawless inning.

Clear Creek first baseman Harrison Hill drove in two runs on a first inning single. Hill walked in the ninth inning, lined out in fifth and struck out in the sixth.

Ball High outfielder Jake Simon reached base on three out of four at-bats. He had a leadoff double in the second inning, a left fielder’s error that drove in a run in the fourth and a walk in the sixth. Simon flied out to deep center field in the eighth inning.

Clear Creek outfielder Satchel McElroy led off the game in the top of the first inning with a single and stole a base. McElroy moved a runner to third base on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and grounded out in the sixth inning. He did not have another at-bat later in the game.

Plovanich reached base after getting hit by a pitch in the fourth inning and had a sacrifice-fly RBI in the fifth. Plovanich flied out in the first inning and grounded out in the bottom of the seventh.
