In this week’s slate of high school baseball and softball playoff games, two Galveston County schools look to topple Goliaths while two other familiar district foes renew a rivalry with hopes to advance in the postseason.

Santa Fe vs. Barbers Hill

After knocking off the state’s fifth-ranked team Angleton last week, the No. 10 Santa Fe Lady Indians will have an upset on their minds again in their regional semifinal series against the state’s No. 1 Class 4A squad, Mont Belvieu Barbers Hill.

To stay alive in the playoffs, Santa Fe will have to do what no team that has faced Barbers Hill this season — win. The Lady Eagles come into the matchup with a 28-0 regular season record and an undefeated run in the playoffs. However, Barbers Hill also comes into the matchup without its head coach, who was suspended before the playoffs began on allegations of improper communication with a student.

Santa Fe will be riding the momentum of playoff series victories over Lamar Consolidated, Tomball Memorial and Angleton.

The three-game series at The Woodlands College Park High School opens 6:30 p.m. Thursday, and Game 2 will be 6:30 p.m. Friday. If needed, Game 3 will be 2 p.m. Saturday.

Clear Creek vs. Pearland

The Clear Creek Wildcats face the eighth-ranked Pearland Oilers in their Class 5A regional quarterfinal matchup. The two former district rivals enter their third round series after getting battle-tested in the previous area round.

Clear Creek won a back-and-forth extra-innings game with a 9-8 victory over Manvel to sweep the Mavericks and advance in the playoffs. Pearland, meanwhile, needed all three games last week to put away Fort Bend Elkins.

Both Clear Creek and Pearland swept their first round series, with the Wildcats topping Fort Bend Austin, 10-2 and 10-1, and Pearland defeating North Shore, 12-4 and 3-0.

The series between Clear Creek and Pearland will be held at Cougar Field on the campus of the University of Houston. Game 1 will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Game 2 will be 7 p.m. Friday and Game 3, if needed, will be 1 p.m. Saturday.

Friendswood vs. Santa Fe

Galveston County rivals Friendswood and Santa Fe meet in the regional quarterfinals, adding local bragging rights to the opportunity to stay alive in the playoffs.

The Indians enter the series after a thrilling three-game area playoff matchup that saw Santa Fe stun defending state champion Tomball with two straight comeback wins after dropping the opening game of the series.

Friendswood is undefeated in the playoffs with an opening-round sweep of Angleton and a win over Milby in a rain-shortened area-round matchup.

During the district 24-4A schedule, Santa Fe and Friendswood split a pair of matchups.

The two rivals will play their three-game series at Alvin High School. Game 1 will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Game 2 will be 7 p.m. Friday and Game 3, if needed, will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
