TEXAS CITY – The Texas City girls bowling team avoided the gutter Sunday and earned a spot in the state tournament.

Playing in the District 9 regional tournament in Pasadena, the Lady Stings took top prize and earned their ticket to state March 29-30 in San Antonio.

Texas City went a perfect 11-0 in district play, losing only one point.

At the regional, Emma Kuhn finished first, Jensine Grant was fourth, Brianna Pate placed eighth, Breanna Bage was ninth and Chloe Kocourek took 10th.

Texas City’s boys team of Tyler Elfstrom, J.L. Bennett, Leo Garcia, Kyle Carranza and Brad Kuhn finished fourth in district play with an 8-4 record to grab a spot at the regional tournament, where they finished seventh.

Kuhn advanced to region in singles and placed eighth in a field of 18.
