Friendswood 7, Dawson 5

PEARLAND — The Lady Mustangs broke open a tie game with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to down Pearland Dawson on Wednesday in a key District 24-4A contest.

Courtney Weber broke the 4-4 tie with a two-out RBI single in the seventh, and Friendswood added two more runs on an error — one of five made by Dawson — to go up by three.

The Lady Eagles managed a run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Lady Mustangs were able to close out the win.

Weber went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in the top of the sixth, two RBIs and three runs scored. Ashley Elliott had three hits with a double and one RBI, and Kaylee Barnes went 2-for-3. Mary Gavin and Savannah Hartman each drove in a run for the Lady Mustangs.

Amber Langston went 3-for-3 with a triple and one RBI for Dawson.

The victory pushed Friendswood (10-3 district) into a tie with Dawson (10-3) for second place in 24-4A, one game behind first-place Santa Fe (11-2), with the final games of the regular season being played today.

In today’s finales, Friendswood is at Baytown Lee (0-13), Dawson plays at Ball High (4-9) and Santa Fe plays at home against Texas City (8-5).
