GALVESTON — The Galveston Community Youth Sailing Center, in partnership with the Scholastic Sailing Association, is encouraging area high school students to represent their school in sailing competitions throughout the Southeast District.

The center is the only sanctioned US Sailing Community Center in Texas, and this program marks the first time that high school sailing teams will have a home base and organized instruction in Galveston.

The teams will meet Friday afternoons at 4 p.m. at the GCYSC, housed within Sea Scout Base Galveston, where they will be instructed by U.S. Sailing certified coaches and members from Texas A&M Galveston’s sailing team. They will race against other teams through the Scholastic Sailing Association.

Teams must have two student members age 14 or older and one faculty advisor. The cost to register is $500.
