POWER RANKINGS

Ohhhh, what a week we had to end the season!

Wins were coming out of the woodwork and when all was said and done, we had seven Galveston County teams end the regular season on a positive note.

Not only that, but eight teams qualified for the playoffs and four won outright district titles.

What does that all mean? Well, for one thing, football will continue for a lot of folks and for the others, good times are on the horizon.

Here’s our final ranking of the hottest county teams for 2013.

Last week: 1

The Stingarees finished up a perfect regular season with a 56-25 defeat of Baytown Lee. Texas City also heads into the playoffs as the District 24-4A champion.

2. Clear Creek

The Wildcats finished off the regular season in a wild way, defeating Clear Springs for the first time in a 63-62, double-overtime points fest. Clear Creek (9-1) is also the District 24-5A titleholder.

The Mustangs (8-2) took down Ball High, 51-6, to close out the regular season and enter the playoffs.

Hopefully this is the end of these "Power" Rankings ... I thought there was some level of reason last week, but reality of the modern feel good every body gets a ribbon world creeps back in this week ... Seriously, did I read where High Island and Hitchcock ended the regular season ranked ahead of 3, 5A playoff teams?? No disrespect to those kids who try as hard as anybody, but seriously ..... OK, enough of my soapbox.

Did I mention how much I missed the very recent days when the sports section of this paper held some level of relevance? Ugghhh ... Friday night games on line with live chat ... pigskin picks with actual prizes ... Sports staff that was passionate and knowledgable ... Energetic interaction between loyal vocal supporters of all GC programs ... All that, and it was FOC ... Now, its none of that. But I guess when you are the only game in town you can do what you want ...
