BAYTOWN – Friendswood completed its domination of the District 24-A golf tournament Tuesday as the boys teams took first and second place in their competition, the girls team topped its field, and both individual winners donned Mustang blue.
Friendswood’s Robert Todd shot a two-day total 146 to finish atop the boys leader board at Evergreen Point Golf Club. Todd opened play with a tournament-best round 71 and shot 75 on Day 2 to better second-place finisher, and Friendswood 1 teammate, Bryce Dooley by a healthy 11 strokes.
Dooley’s 157 was good for second, and fellow Friendswood 1 players Daniel Bradley and Aron Hetsko each shot a 160 to claim the top four spots.
Harrison Slone added a 173 for Friendswood 1 as the fivesome finished with a 623 total.
The Friendswood 2 team of Jacob Gill (171), Sterling Killian (171), Adam Michalek (173), Sam Kinloch (177) and Nick Oldham (182) shot a 691 to take second place in the team competition and qualify for the regional tournament alongside Friendswood 1.
The top two teams and top two individuals not already on teams that qualify for regional will move on to the next postseason round. Earning those individual berths to regionals from 24-4A were Pearland Dawson’s Euan Wallace (163) and Texas City’s Zach Hayley (164).
Emma Brackett bettered the girls field by 15 strokes, leading Friendswood 1 to the team championship with her two-round total of 160. Teammates Alex Magid (176), Abbey Hayford (200), Victoria Hartman (202) and Abby Hendrick (204) will also play at regionals.
Texas City’s Autumn Gilley finished with a 175 for second place overall as she pushed the Lady Stings to a second-place team finish and a spot at regionals with a 819 total. Joining her for the next 18 holes will be teammates Lindsey Nolte (186), Amanda Jensen (214), Maddi Monroe (244) and Meghan Reid (252).
Individual qualifiers for regionals were Friendswood 2’s Shelby Michael (203) and Pearland Dawson’s Viginia Martin (206).
In the girls team standings, Dawson (838) placed third, Friendswood 2 (853) was fourth, Ball High (943) was fifth, Santa Fe (97) took sixth and Goose Creek (1,017) finished seventh.
The Region III-4A golf tournament will take place Tuesday and Wednesday at River Ridge Golf Club in Sealy.
