After hosting its 48-hour tennis marathon fundraiser Friday through Sunday, the Friendswood tennis team will be gearing up for its team tennis season opener 3 p.m. Wednesday at Dobie.

That same week, the Mustangs will compete in the Fort Bend Tournament, playing host to state-ranked Katy Taylor and Clements on Aug. 22 before traveling to Deer Park on Aug. 23.

Friendswood, ranked as high as No. 8 in the state in Class 4A last fall, will also take part in Galveston’s fourth annual Remembering Ike Team Tennis Tournament on Sept. 12-13.

The Mustangs, last year’s Remembering Ike runners-up, are prepping for their new district foes in 24-6A.

“It will be quite different for us competing with 6A teams in our district, but for the most part, we played against many of these same teams in previous years and held our own pretty well,” coach David Cook said.

“It will be tougher in general, but I expect our kids to respond to the challenges ahead of us quite well.”

Returning to the boys’ lineup are Kishan Patel, Jordan Desbrow, Ryan Desbrow, Jake Barton, Cooper Dixon, Imran Siddiqi, Johnny Luu, Alex Manning and Cameron Norris.

Back to play on the girls’ side of the court are Sydney Chase, Katherine Harclerode, LB Labra, Sophie Venturini, Kathryn Dowless, Hannah Cooley, Morgan Massicott, Michelle Ngo and Hannah Schmanske.
