HOUSTON – Although their side came up short, 9-7, Clear Creek catcher Anthony Cole and Clear Springs pitcher Blake Chisholm performed well in a gathering of some of the Houston area’s best senior baseball players Monday.

Cole reached base in all three of his at-bats and had a run batted in, and Chisholm threw a scoreless inning in the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association’s 5A North vs. South All-Star Game held at the Baseball USA complex in Houston.

Cole walked in the second inning, smacked a single to center field in the seventh inning and drove in a run on a bases loaded fielder’s choice in the ninth inning.

Cole also played solid defense and flashed an accurate and strong arm in three innings behind the plate.

Chisolm pitched the sixth inning, and after giving up an infield single to Langham Creek’s Gonzalo Sosa, he forced three straight fly-outs by Conroe Oak Ridge’s Alex Walker, Katy Morton Ranch’s Sam Pistrui and Langham Creek’s Aaron Fletcher for a fairly uneventful inning.

Chisholm reached base in the ninth inning after being hit by a pitch, and had a ground out and a strikeout in his three at-bats.

In addition to the two local players, Clear Creek head coach Brent Kunefke and his staff handled managing duties for the South squad.

A six-run fourth inning proved to be the difference for the victorious North team as they hit three straight singles to start the inning and drove in their runs with a bases-loaded walk, and five RBIs off two singles and a double with two outs in the inning. The North scored their three other runs in the second inning.

The South took the first lead in the game with two runs in the top of the second inning, but played from behind throughout the rest of the contest. The South notched two more runs in the fifth and three in the ninth.

Monday’s game was the first in a series of three all-star games put on by the HABCA and hosted by the Baseball USA complex.

Today at 4:30 p.m., there will be an all-star game between the top seniors on subclass 5A schools. Friendswood third baseman Drew Barba, Santa Fe pitcher Brandon Holder and Ball High catcher Baine Schoenvogul will represent Galveston County on the South team.

At 7 p.m. today, there will be an all-star game for the top junior players in the area. Zach Esquivel, Harrison Hill and Satchel McElroy of Clear Creek; Preston Plovanich of Santa Fe; and Jake Simon of Ball High are all scheduled to participate in the game.
