The sun was out, the sky was blue, and Buddy Holly would surely have enjoyed the view as weekly competition returned to both Moody Gardens Golf Course and Bayou Golf Club in Texas City.

On Feb. 15, Bayou had a two-man “Race Horse” tournament (six holes each of alternate shot, better ball and scramble).

In the A flight, badge buddies Joe Howell and Randy Burrows handcuffed first place, while Ray Summers and Tom Watkins stole second with both teams carding scores of 62.

In the B flight, Richard Dipuccio and Jim West won with a score of 60, followed by Penny Perez and Marcus Perez with 63.

The Bayou Senior Scramble was back in play on Feb. 19 and was won by Wayne Henderson, Paul Gonzales, David Cash and T.W. Bevill with a score of 60.

Second- and third-place teams, each scoring 62, were Joe Howell, Randy Burrows and Carl Medley and Stan Ivey, Marcus Perez, Penny Perez and Ray Voss, respectively.

Cash was again king at Moody Gardens in the Thursday Cash Game, with Individual Gross ending in a tie (74) between Bill Blanda and Josh Stout.

Paul Bohn won individual net (64), with Bobby Sanderson (66) in second and a third-place share each to Kyle Reiser, Jimmy Jenkins and Rick Christ.

Bobby Sanderson, Jimmy Jenkins and Josh Stout won team net.

High School

The Ball High girls varsity competed in the Crosby Girls Spring Classic on Feb. at Newport Golf Club. The Lady Tors finished 8th among 15 teams as Sara Silva led them in scoring, tied for 28th among 65 individual competitors.

Marissa Matthews, Frannie Kusnerik and Kaley Anderson completed the squad.

Mardi Gras golf?

Not really. However, as the good times roll at MG Galveston, it’s not too soon to start thinking about teeing up over in Lake Charles when the Golden Nugget will likely begin play inside and out on its course. More as the time approaches.

Be safe, on and off the course.
