Boating safety seminar set for Saturday

The Galveston Bay Sail and Power Squadron has announced a seminar on Saturday titled “Preparing You and Your Boat for Storms and Hurricanes.”

There will be four classes during the one-day seminar, which will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each class lasts about two hours.

The presenters in each class are all experts in their topics and will add their own lessons learned to the professional United States Power Squadron’s material. Also, a panel discussion at lunch will feature power squadron members sharing their harrowing experiences during storms at sea.

The classes are “Hurricanes and Boats,” “Knots, Bends and Hitches,” “Onboard Weather Forecasting” and “Tides and Currents.”

The seminar is at the Galveston Bay Sail and Power Squadron training building on the grounds of Lakewood Yacht Club, 2425 NASA Parkway, in Seabrook.

The cost — which includes the classes, materials, lunch, snacks and beverages — is $45.

Space is limited.
