GALVESTON – The Galveston College softball team split a pair of games against San Jacinto College on Wednesday, taking the opener, 5-1, and losing Game 2 in extra innings, 4-3.

Whitecaps starter Brooke Seneshen kept San Jacinto’s bats quiet in the opener, allowing only three hits in seven innings without tossing a walk. She gave up one run, which was unearned, and struck out six.

Taylor Valentin went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs for Galveston (27-16), and Taylor O’Dell went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and scored twice. Ally Johnson had a pair of hits and drove in one.

In the nightcap, San Jacinto knotted the score at 4 with a leadoff homer in the seventh that forced extra innings and plated a run in the top of the eighth that held up to rally for the win.

Alexa Solomon went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles for Galveston. Marissa Garza had a solo homer and drove in two, and Jackie Baimbridge belted a solo home run for the Whitecaps.

Galveston College is ranked No. 9 in the nation in the latest NCJAA softball poll.

Whitecaps sweep Coastal Bend

BEEVILLE – The Galveston College softball team took two games from Coastal Bend College on April 4, winning 10-0 in the five-inning opener and outlasting the Cougars, 3-2, in a nine-inning nightcap.

Seneshen earned both wins from the circle for the Whitecaps. She tossed five shutout innings in Game 1, giving up only one hit with six strikeouts. In Game 2, Seneshen pitched 22/3 innings of shutout ball in relief, striking out four and surrendering two hits.

Galveston exploded for seven runs in the first inning of the opener and cruised to the shutout.

Savannah Martin went 4-for-4 with a homer and a double, driving in three runs and scoring three times.

Taylor O’Dell went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and one RBI, and Laci Belovsky went 3-for-3 and drove in one.

In Game 2, Garza started the ninth inning with a double, and Martin drove her home for the winning RBI.

Coastal Bend forced extra innings by scoring two in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run homer.

Martin went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, and Garza went 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run.

The Whitecaps next face Blinn College for two games beginning 1 p.m. Saturday in Galveston.
