Coming off a dominating 19-point win over Fort Bend George Ranch on Tuesday, the Texas City Stingarees basketball team are bracing for a very strong Wheatley Wildcats squad.
On Tuesday, Wheatley dominated most of the game against Tomball Memorial on Tuesday before closing out a 12-point victory.
The Wildcats were a perfect 16-0 in district play and finished the season with an overall record of 28-4.
The Stings hope to use the defense that led them to victory on Tuesday to slow down Wheatley’s offense that scores off created opportunities, Texas City Coach Chris Mason said.

Coming off a 1-point win over Rosenberg Terry on Tuesday, the Friendswood Mustangs get set for Ridge Point on Friday in Pearland.
Ridge Point is coming off a 14-point win over North Forest and finished the season 18-14, while Jeff Keener’s Mustang squad was 25-6 overall and finished 12-2 in district after dropping games to its fellow tri-district champs Texas City and Pearland Dawson.
Keener said Ridge Point is pretty athletic and plays an aggressive form of defense. His key to a win?
The same as with every opponent: “Being engaged defensively,” he said.
Also in action Friday are the La Marque Cougars, who will travel to East Chambers to play West Orange Stark in 3A hoops playoff action while Hitchcock looks to keep its winning ways when the Bulldogs take on Blanco in Columbus on Friday.
Two of the county’s charter/private schools will also be playing playoff basketball Friday.
Premiere Learning Academy will play Dime Box in Waller on Friday. Bay Area Christian, coming off a 72-42 win over Woodlands Christian, will play Bulverde Bracken Christian on Saturday.
