MANVEL – Clear Falls scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat Fort Bend Travis in the first round of the Region III-5A playoffs.
Trailing 2-1 after five and a half innings, the Knights first six batters connected on six consecutive hits to key the 4-2 win.
After squandering opportunities to score with four runners in scoring position in the first four innings, the Knights got on the board in the fifth when Rachel Bobo used her speed to reach on an infield single, and Tori Hatten drove her in with a base knock to left field to tie the game at 1.
Amber Pufal led off the sixth with a double, her second extra-base hit of the night, to get things started in the hit parade for Clear Falls.
Brooke Wilhite followed with her second single of the game, and Madison Demers swung at the first pitch to get the game-tying RBI single, scoring courtesy runner Vanessa LeVick.
The first-pitch hits continued as Allie Rich delivered the go-ahead RBI single to left, scoring Wilhite, and Bobo reached on a bunt single, her second infield hit of the game. Madison Ulmer continued the trend with an infield hit that loaded the bases.
Madison Michna added some insurance for the Knights with an RBI fielder’s choice, scoring courtesy runner Jordan Hoke.
In the top of the seventh inning, Clear Falls pitcher Misty Muniz recorded two quick outs before giving up a double.
Muniz got the last out on a spectacular defensive play by shortstop Taylor Troutt, who threw out the runner at the first to end the game and start the celebration for the Knights. Muniz gave up seven hits, struck out six and allowed one earned run to pick up the win. Clear Falls will play Deer Park in the next round of the playoffs.
