LUFKIN — The Galveston College softball team wrapped up the regular season Tuesday with a pair of losses after being swept by the Agelina College Lady Roadrunners in a road doubleheader.
Brooke Seneshen pitched six strong innings for the Whitecaps in the opener but lost a tight contest, 2-0. Seneshen gave up only one earned run on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Galveston managed only two hits and left a runner stranded on third in the top of the third in its best chance to score.
Savannah Martin doubled and walked for the Whitecaps, and teammate Marina Rios singled.
In Game 2, the Lady Roadrunners got a two-run homer in the first inning and pulled away in a one-run game with a two-run sixth en route to a 7-4 victory.
Marissa Garza’s solo homer to start the fourth pulled the Whitecaps within a run, 5-4. But Agelina responded two innings later with a two-out, two-run double to create some breathing room going into Galveston’s last at-bats.
Taylor O’Dell went 2-for-3 for the Whitecaps. Garza had the homer and scored twice, Martin had a hit and one RBI, and Cally Newsome drove in a run and scored once.
Galveston (31-18), ranked No. 9 in the nation in the latest NCJAA poll, came into the doubleheader with four straight victories and winners of eight of its last nine games. The Whitecaps will start the postseason soon.
