FRIENDSWOOD — Four Mustangs baseball players recently received recognition for their hard work in the classroom, earning academic all-state team selections.

All four players making it to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association’s Class 4A Academic All-State Team are Friendswood graduates — third baseman Drew Barba, outfielder Bryan Fowler, pitcher Bradley Tinger and first baseman Walker Williams.

For Barba, the honor is just the latest in a long procession of postseason accolades. Barba was named third team all-state by the THSBCA, was on a first-teamer on the 24-4A All-District and The Daily News’ All-County picks, and was selected to senior all-star game rosters by the THSBCA and the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association.

Williams’ other offseason awards include being named second team all-county and all-district.

The quartet of Mustangs were also integral in Friendswood’s final push to jump two spots in the standings to win its third University Interscholastic League Lone Star Cup. The Lone Star Cup rankings factor a school’s overall success in both athletics and academics.
