A showdown between two top 10-ranked teams highlight this week’s Galveston County baseball and softball UIL playoff games.

The No. 10 Santa Fe Lady Indians take on fifth-ranked Angleton in a three-game series beginning 6:30 p.m. Friday at Angleton. Game 2 of the series is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Santa Fe with Game 3, if necessary, penciled in for 30 minutes after the end of Game 2.

The two teams, both district champions and two of the area’s best 4A softball programs, meet in the regional quarterfinals after besting some familiar competition in the first two rounds.

Santa Fe topped Lamar Consolidated out of Angleton’s district in their first-round playoff series before sweeping Tomball Memorial last Thursday and Friday for an area title.

Angleton ousted Texas City in the opening bi-district round then knocked out Tomball in Round 2.

I think those SF young ladies will progress deeper into the playoffs. Best of luck to the remaining Galveston County teams.
