If the opening week of the high school football season is any indication, then 2013 will be an explosive go-round.

There were big-time performances across the county, but several players stood out from the rest.

Here they are, and be sure to look in the Galveston County Daily News as the season goes on to find out about their exploits and those of other players this fall.

1 Jake Blumrick, QB, Friendswood

Blumrick is the latest in a long line of Mustang quarterbacks that come out shooting. He completed 10 passes for 219 yards and threw for four touchdowns.

2 Oliver Knipe, RB, High Island

Knipe was a one-man ground game for the Cardinals, rushing for 205 yards on 19 carries and scoring four touchdowns.

3 Blake Chapman, QB, O’Connell

Chapman was especially versatile for the Buccaneers, throwing for 112 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 67 yards and another TD.

4 Ryan Skufka, QB, Santa Fe

Skufka had a knack for finding his receivers’ hands. He was 15-for-19 passing for 161 yards and a touchdown.

5 D’Onta Foreman, RB, Texas City

Foreman rushed for 148 yards on 14 totes and found the end zone three times.

6 Kaliq Kokuma, RB, Clear Creek

7 Cameron Faulk, WR, Friendswood

9 Laderrian Ellis-Jones, QB, La Marque

Ellis-Jones rushed for 152 yards and scored once on the ground for the Cougars in his first start at quarterback since junior high. He also threw for a TD.

10 Dalton DeMoss, RB, High Island

brent faulk

Cameron Faulk is the backup QB. His twin brother Colin is the WR. Galveston Daily news article on Saturday morning was incorrect as well.
