GALVESTON – The Galveston College Whitecaps combined solid hitting and good pitching to win two games against Wharton County Junior College on Saturday.
In the first game, Nathan Turner went 3-for-3 at the plate, sparking the Whitecaps to a 6-1 victory in seven innings.
Turner singled in the first, third and fifth innings.
Kevin Macias went 2-for-2 for Galveston College with an RBI.
Jose Garcia, Josh Stokmans and Joshua Santos-Torres also had RBIs for the Whitecaps.
Jose Rendon got the win, allowing one run on six hits in six innings. Rendon struck out four and didn’t walk a batter.
In the second game, Wharton came out hitting and put up three runs in the top of the first inning.
The Whitecaps added a pair in the bottom half of the inning, tied the game in the second and blew it open with three runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth on their way to a 10-3 win.
The four runs in the sixth inning came on an RBI single by Austin Baron, a two-run triple by Ross McWhorter, and an RBI single by Jose Garcia.
McWhorter got on base four times in the game for the Whitecaps. He scored two runs and had two RBIs.
Ethan Stremmel got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He allowed three runs in five innings, struck out one, walked one and gave up six hits.
