Texas City won seven of the 10 events at the Stings’ second annual Super-Pro 10 Varsity Tennis Tournament.

In boys A singles, Texas City’s Riley Finn and Colin Stinson finished first and second, respectively.

The Stings’ Jarrod Manus and Connor Musick were second in the boys A doubles, while teammates Irvin Hernandez and Humberto Sanchez claimed the boys’ B doubles.

Texas City swept the girls’ singles titles, as Ana Ramirez beat teammate Brianna Baker in the A final, and teammate Destiny Sauceda was first in the B division.

Claiming third in the girls’ B singles was Santa Fe’s Ashley Strain.

In girls’ doubles play, the Stings’ Sarah Mejia and Cheryl Prevost were first in the A division, and the Texas City teams of Esly Mendoza/Vanessa Torres and Taylor/Claussen/Jaelyn Torence were second and third, respectively, in the B division.

The Stings also swept the mixed doubles titles, with Marta Fernandez and De Marco Battles beating Santa Fe’s Keanna Hunter and Roscoe Nelms in the A final, and Marina Flores and Marcus Huskey beating the Indians’ Destiny Herrera and Trevor McDougal in the B final.

Texas City’s Victoria Barbin and Austin Ruiz were third in the B mixed doubles.

Simply smashing

Texas City’s Quentin Chavis Jr. teamed up with League City’s Zachary Hubbard to win their men’s doubles match, 8-0, and help the Bay Area Racquet Club Bulldogs knock off the Humble Smashers.

Making summer plans

Pat Marrie’s annual Summer Blast Tennis Camp is just around the corner.

Two sessions will be at Clear Creek High School, July 21-24 and July 28-31. The camps are open to first- through 12th-graders.

Tip of the day

When you and your opponent are both at the net, you want to hit down at their feet.

That way, if they still return your volley, they will send up a high ball that will be easier to put away.
