BAYTOWN — Picking up the pace provided the breakthrough Clear Falls was looking for in a 29-0 win over Baytown Sterling on Thursday at Stallworth Stadium.

The Knights (1-1) and the Rangers (1-1) engaged in a duel of offensive futility in the first half, with the two teams combining for no points and 104 total yards.

Clear Falls took the second half kickoff and switched to a no-huddle offense. The change provided immediate results in the form of three touchdowns in four offensive series.

Sterling (1-1) was unable to match that showing as the Knights defense came up with a huge showing.

Clear Falls began the third quarter with the ball at its own 39. It took the Knights just five plays and 85 seconds to put the first touchdown on the board, with Alex Assarian hitting Nick Kelley on an 18-yard touchdown pass.

Victor Garcia took advantage of an unbalanced set by Sterling on the conversion to connect with Brett Baker on a two-point pass.

An interception by Crocker gave the Knights the ball at midfield and led to an eight-play scoring drive.

That scenario repeated itself with 49 seconds remaining in the third period as Kaden Reddington  came up with Clear Falls’ second interception of the night. Once again, the Knights turned the turnover into six points as Assarian hooked up with Ke’Shaun Holmes from 38 yards out.

Sterling launched its only scoring threat of the game midway through the fourth quarter. The Rangers moved to Clear Falls 7 before Marcus Foster stopped Kane Vigier for no gain on a fourth-and-1 play.

The Knights took over and moved 93 yards for their final touchdown.

Sterling quarterback Archie Meyers was under constant pressure from the Clear Falls defensive line led by Rah Bailey, who had a pair of sacks and had numerous pressures and tackles.

The Knights also got an improved performance from its offensive line in the second half, leading to touchdown runs by Sam Draper and Brandon Hayward.
