It’s small consolation, but two members of the Friendswood Lady Mustangs soccer team were named to the UIL Soccer State All-Tournament team by the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches.

Midfielder Selina Vickery and defender Cortlyn Buck were named to the team Sunday, just two days after the Lady Mustangs were eliminated from the state tournament, 4-0, by Wylie East.

Friendswood (22-5-3) was making its eighth state appearance, having won three silver trophies and claiming the Class 4A title in 2001.

Buck, who made first team All-District as a junior, will play soccer next year at Dallas Baptist.

Vickery, who is only a sophomore, made second team All-District last season.

Others on the team were the two Lady Mustangs were joined on the All-Tournament team by four players from eventual state champion Austin Vandegrift, three players from Wylie East and two players from Northwest Nelson.

Friendswood closed out the season with victories in 16 of its 18 matches and totaled 17 shutouts on the year.
