GALVESTON – Kevin Macias’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh scored teammate Raphael Gladu from third base and gave the Galveston College baseball team a walk-off win over Alvin Community College on Thursday in the first game of a doubleheader.
Gladu led off the seventh with a single and finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Taylor Beene had a hit and one RBI for the Whitecaps (28-15).
Gabriel Klobosits earned the win over Alvin, ranked No. 9 nationally in the NCJAA poll, in 11/3 innings of no-hit relief, striking out one.
Starter Guillaume Blanchette lasted 52/3 innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts and one walk.
In Game 2 of the doubleheader, Alvin pounded 16 hits and plated four runs in the seventh to put the Whitecaps away en route to an 8-1 win.
Chad Vanaman went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for Alvin. Starter Ricky Ramirez scatted eight hits in seven innings and struck out four in the win.
Galveston managed nine hits but scored only once when Ross McWhorter singled in Gladu in the top of the first. McWhorter had two hits.
Joshua Santos-Torres went 3-for-4 for the Whitecaps.
Galveston will host another doubleheader against Alvin starting 1 p.m. Saturday.
