MANVEL — Brittany Bennett scored 16 points to lead the Lady Cougars to a win Tuesday in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Courtney Randle added 15 points for La Marque.
The Lady Cougars advanced to the second round, where they will play District 21-3A champion Hardin-Jefferson at 6 p.m. Thursday at Barbers Hill High School.
Clear Lake 62, Clear Falls 51
LEAGUE CITY — The Falcons jumped out to a 23-9 lead in the first quarter on Tuesday to take out the Knights in 24-5A play and tie for second place in the district standings.
Will West had 18 points for Clear Lake (8-4 district), and Alden Miles added 14 points.
Louis Dunbar paced Clear Falls (8-4) with a game-high 23 points. The Knights were 9 for 21 from the free throw line.
Clear Falls will be the No. 2 seed from the district for the playoffs via a power rankings tiebreaker.
Ball High 56, Friendswood 52
GALVESTON — The Tors secured a playoff berth with a big home win in 24-4A play.
Dammon Johnson led Ball High (7-6) with a game-high 21 points. Greg Rollins added 11 points for the Tors.
Quinton Mertz paced Friendswood (10-3) with 17 points. Chris Collins scored 11 points, and Jordan Wood had 10 points for the Mustangs.
Baytown Lee 61, Texas City 54
BAYTOWN — The Ganders (5-8) outscored the Stings 23-10 in the fourth quarter to earn a 24-4A victory.
Jamari Gilbert had 16 points for Texas City (8-5), and teammate Kaleb Hockless scored 11 points.
Goose Creek 51, Santa Fe 44
SANTA FE — Mason Hessler scored 18 points for the Indians (1-12) in the 24-4A loss to Goose Creek Memorial (6-7).
La Marque 56, Stafford 53
LA MARQUE — The Cougars won the District 24-3A championship outright and a first-round bye. A steal by Al Curry with six seconds to play helped seal the victory.
Paris Clayton had 21 points and four assists for La Marque (23-10, 10-0). Demun Mercer finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, and Lawrence Montegut added 12 points and eight rebounds.
Premier Learning 51, High Island 25
LA MARQUE — Teddy Winston had 21 points, five steals and four assists as the Knights won in District 26-A Div. II play.
Derrick O’Brien and Jacoby Callier each scored nine points for Premier Learning Academy (11-1).
The Knights split the district title with Leggett. Those squads will have a one-game playoff for the district’s top postseason seed and a first-round bye at 7 p.m. Friday at Porter High School.
