ALVIN – After splitting a pair of games Thursday against Alvin Community College, the Galveston College Whitecaps came up on the short end of two games against the Dolphins on Saturday.

In the opener, Alvin scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and held on to win, 3-1. Jose Rendon got the start for the Whitecaps and loaded the bases on consecutive singles to the first three Dolphin batters.

Alvins Jack Kaiser then knocked in a run with an infield groundout. A single by the next batter gave Alvin a lead it would not relinquish.

Rendon recovered and held the Dolphins scoreless in the second and third innings before an error led to an unearned run in the fourth inning. He also held Alvin scoreless in the fifth inning, before giving way to Jonathan Hennigan, who got the final three outs on two strikeouts and a caught-stealing when Dolphin Andrew Phu was thrown out trying to steal second base.

The Whitecaps scored their run in the third inning when, with one out, Zach Drouillard reached on an error and advanced to second on a single by Joshua Santos-Torres.

Both runners advanced when Nathan Turner was hit by a pitch, and Drouillard scored on a fielder’s choice by Nathan Turner.

In the second game, the Whitecaps gave up a run in the second inning, three in the third and two in the seventh en route to a 6-4 loss.

Ethan Stremmel took the loss for Galveston, giving uo four runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings of work.

Two of the runs were unearned, and he struck out two and walked two.

The Whitecaps got within a run after scoring two in the fourth inning and another run in the fifth inning.

Laiky Uribe led the offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

The split left the Whitecaps with a record of 14-8.

The Whitecaps play again today when they host South Suburban at 1 p.m.
