A great hire by SF ... To get a guy familiar with the area, and the has always been a winner. He knows what winning means, and how to win at the highest level. He will bring great energy and vision to the Indian program. I congratulate the SF folks for a victory in this hire. With the great parent and fan support in SF, I see a bright future ...

I concur! Coach Kanipes is going to be good for SFISD. He is cut from the same fabric as WEDDELL. He is fruit off the Weddell coaching tree, along with Coach Wells of Dawson, Coach Heath of Pearland, Coach Dean DeAtley of Brazoswood, Coach Leland Surovik of Texas City, and several others! Santa Fe players better get ready to work, and win because they are fixing to take off similar to what the Pearland Oilers did with Coach Heath, who we never had the opportunity to "WHUP!"
I do wish we could have WHUPPED him!!!!!!!! To late now. That's all I know!!!

I dunno JBG, I'll have to wait to see what Keith Gray's comments are here since he bleeds green and gold but it does look promising.

Buck, I always believed Jay Buckner was a great role model for our young men, and his resignation is the result of parents having control. I am fine with that, unless parents act purely on emotion without knowing the game or having a good evaluation of talent for both coaching and players. Just because you won in BAFA, does not mean those kids will develop into the athletes needed to compete on the high school level. Having said that, I know Mark and he will be a great asset to our Program. However, everyone needs to remember; these coaches cannot go out and recruit athletes... they are challenged to work with what our community gives them... Mark is a proven coach, and this is his inaugural year in the position where all fingers point to him. If our Tribe comes out and competes he will be the Hero… however, if he falls short of parents expectation… who you gonna blame then? God Bless and good luck Jay, and Welcome to Mark and his family…

mgtex I sure hope the Wood reserves a predistrict game for us... It would be a tragedy to end our "across the tracks" rivalry...

Well JBG, the SH6 guru has checked in with his $.02. Is it too early for a stack of smack talk yet? We know talking smack is a 24/7/365 event for JBG.

Sure you are right Mr. Buckner, and allow me to go out on the proverbial limb here! Coach Mark is going to turn Santa Fe around! I think the "FE" is going to be competitive and in a couple of seasons, the game between TC and SF is going to be a KNOCK-DOWN,..LOW DOWN dog fight!!!!!!! I did not say this,...you did not get it from me,...but it might even get BIGGER than the "Battle By The Bay"....between LM & TC!!
Now,...I need to get ahead of the game and decide which one of WEDDELL'S boys, took the best notes! I remember both while they were here, that is why I know there are going to be some changes down HWY 6!
It happened in Pearland,...it happened at Dawson in Pearland,....it happened in Brazoswood, it happened in TC, and IT WILL HAPPEN IN SANTA FE TOO!
Look out now,....you heard it here FIRST,...Please remember that, because I need my props!!!
    Mr. Buckner,
Look here, I hate to toot my own horn okay? ( Naw I don't) However,...see,,,,this is the kind of expertise, and knowledge about the game and those who participate in it ....YOU COULD NEVER GET OUT OF THAT GUY IN DC WHO WANTED MY CAPE!!! You have to put in the time in order to be able to do this! I know he is reading this, and all I have to say is ......."It is what it is!" [smile]

OMG! Keith! See what you started? We're 5 months from preseason and you've got ol JBG fired up about HS football. I really thought he'd be speechless sisnce those TC twins are graduating. But you just had to go get him all stirred up.

I think JBG is just warming up for spring training... I am just glad he is back... I like it when he is in "full sermon" mold, and unyielding in the Word...it gives some folks the fits... and I have to tell you... If I hadn't met the DC Smack Talker in person, I would of thought JBG invented him to ensure he has an arch rival to "smack" against...

Correction Mr. Buckner,...You heard it from MGTEX first,....but I'll take second on this! I must be slipping, ...need to shore up my game is all I know! I wonder if we will see the "FE" decked out in NEW UNIFORMS?
Rusty Dowling modified TC's unforms when he came in years ago,..and ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE from the TC Old Timers! He took some of that loud orange out and added a change-up of a Black jersey with orange in it. Must have worked, because TC started kicking butts and taking names! Might have been taking names and kicking butts,...does not matter, there are numerous district championships, and State Titles painted on Stingaree Stadium, courtesy of Coach Dowling, and the players of that era!
Another team on the verge of breaking out is the Gators! Look out for them, Dickinson population is growing and players are growing up in their system! Look at Clear Creek. They use to be down,..now look at them. BTW,...keep an eye on their QB,...Hildreth,...boy is badddddd!

With all due respect Jbgood, the color of a uniform does not make a good or bad team. Santa Fe's colors are green and gold. I have seen Santa Fe in Kelly Green tops, Hunter Green tops, Gold tops, and white tops. Same thing for their pants and helmets. Their helmets have sported arrow heads, an SF, an Indian head and no logos. And back in the day they had leather helmets. Pants with piping and no piping (stripes on the sides). Jerseys with Santa Fe on them, jersey's without Santa Fe on them. Jerseys with and without the players names on them. Everything has been tried. There's nothing new to be tried here. I personally prefer a variation on the Green Bay Packer uniform of the early 70s.You cannot change the school colors. Texas City's colors had always been orange and black. The black jerseys were just a variation on the same color scheme.

Well, Mr. Ponce I thought I said modified when I described Coach Dowling's dealing with TC's colors. ( Check my prior post ) You are right,... he made changes in the color scheme, and that is what I meant.( modified ). I did not mean he rushed in and told everybody the orange and white was outta there. I apologize if I led you to think that.
It was the same thought I was trying to convey with my Santa Fe uniform comment,...and I disagree with you concerning modifications of uniforms making a difference in the performance of an athlete.
Your opinion I respect,... but I've seen this approach work, I observed Notre Dame getting the daylights beat out of them years ago, and at half time they changed their blue jerseys for Irish Greens they had not worn for 20-30 years and they chased their opponent off the field the second half! For whatever reason the changed jerseys couple with the message the coaches laid on them made all the difference!
Don't look at Santa Fe the way you have observed them for years in the past,....look at them with expectations of change and excellence, because that will be the approach of the new Coach coming in! I can almost guarantee you that!! If he is smart and I know he is,...he will start this way of thinking with his varsity, and demand it be taught down to the JV(s) and Junior High players as well!
The word of GOD says as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. That would apply to high school football players as well! (Proverbs 23:7 ). You know this!!
I'll give you one better,...I've seen this approach work with pewee players who were perennial losers with certain coaches,...and the league changed the coach,...and that new coach,...started changing the way the players, saw themselves, and the coach had a gift for talking and making rah-rah speeches, and bingo,....the team became instant winners!!!!! I made them think they could win,...I made them think they had a right to win, and be first class,...and every team I ever work with BOUGHT what I was selling!!! Every sub-par, under performing group I ever managed, in my professions BOUGHT it too,..and they were better for it!
Despite what some people believe, coaching makes a difference. Leadership makes a difference and I think you know this! San Francisco Forty-Niners found that out when they got rid of Mike Singletary, and hired Harbaugh.
LaMarque Cougars found that out when they got rid of several coaches and hired Bill Bundy, Hugh Massey and Allen Weddell. The Dallas Cowboys found that out when they sent a legend off to retirement, and hired Jimmy Johnson. Hey there it is,...right there!
A bad situation or circumstance is JUST an opportunity for a good leader to make a fantastic or out of the box decision or choice in how he/she deals with them!!! I wonder if I'm being listened to here?

I'm a football man and played it with a spirit of excellence, to the point I was recruited by multiple institutions. I've spent years working with young people, girls and boys from t-ball,...baseball to football, and many of them went on to do great things with their lives, some to major football institutions and some to the NFL.
Many are great business men now, and have great families! All that is my reward. I seen this happen from TC clean through Houston, my friend!
Sorry you never witnessed that, it was something to see,...but old JBG lived it. You do know of coarse when Santa Fe start raising all kinds of &*^^ over there I will remind you of this conversation. Okay by you?

Wow! how exciting and a big welcome to Mr. Kanipes and his family. This change was a long time coming and just what we needed. There's no reason a coach can't be both good for the kids and a good football coach. Thanks to the SFISD for looking outward to try and revive the SF Football program. As a season ticket holder of 20+ years I can hardly wait to get tem in my hand this year. Hopefully we will see much improvement which will also bring along the other groups as well. Go SF Football, Band, Cheerleaders, Drill Team, and all the other Sf sports.

ahhhh .... I love GC football!! It feels like September already!!!

I don't know about scheduling the FE for a preseason game for Fwd since the Mustangs are moving up in classification ... I think they are going to have TC and Terry or a 6A school next year before their adventure in to "big boy" football begins. Although a CC grad myself, I can't imagine a district better than LM/FWD/TC/Dawson/Manvel/Angleton/SF of recent years ...

I think the boys of CCISD will have a new experience of ball coming in the fall/ The Mustangs have their skill guys back, plus a brand new lefty QB in T Page ... Gonna be fun!!!!
