LEAGUE CITY – The Clear Brook and Clear Creek boys soccer teams battled in a key District 24-5A showdown Tuesday night, with the Wolverines winning a 1-0 decision at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
With four playoff spots available within the district, only the first-place Clear Lake Falcons have ensured a postseason berth. Clear Brook entered the game in fourth place and Clear Creek in sixth, but second through sixth place were only separated by a handful of points. The victory put the Wolverines in a tie for second place.
With a stiff wind at their back in the first half, the Wildcats had several opportunities to score but were unable to capitalize.
The game remained scoreless until inside of 10 minutes left in the second half when Bryan Davila scored on a rebound from 6 yards out.
Clear Creek’s goal keeper Carlos Ramirez made a brilliant save on Andrew Ciancone’s initial shot but couldn’t completely clear the ball out of danger.
The Wildcats battled to the final whistle, but came up just short.
When asked to name a game MVP, Clear Brook head coach Chris Stromeyer said, “I can’t really name just one player. It was a great team effort. We played together the whole night.”
