Clear Creek ISD had six wrestlers in the state tournament Saturday at the Berry Center in Cypress, and had one wrestler medal.

Clear Springs’ Kyle Kretzer finished in third place in his 170-pound weight class. Kretzer wasn’t pleased with his third-place finish.

“It feels good, but it wasn’t what I wanted,” said Kretzer on finishing in third place.

He believed it had to do with him not being put in a more favorable bracket for him.

“I didn’t quite get the bracket position that I hoped for, but despite the odds, I came and fought for third,” said Kretzer.

No matter the bracket, Kretzer came out in his third-place match and gave it his all against El Paso Franklin’s David Powers. Kretzer didn’t relinquish a single point in this matchup. He won decisively, 6-0.

“I just wanted to get to the finals and start banging heads,” said Kretzer.

Kretzer lost to Allen’s Braeden Redlin in the semifinals.

Kretzer had a successful season being named regional champ in addition to his third-place finish at the state tournament.
