And then there were two.
Hitchcock and La Marque are now Galveston County’s last two representatives in the boys basketball playoffs, moving onto the Region III-3A quarterfinals Tuesday after their area-round wins Friday.
Here’s a look ahead at their matchups:
HITCHCOCK VS. KOUNTZE
The Bulldogs will be looking for a measure of revenge in their regional quarterfinal game 7 p.m. Tuesday at Dayton High School against Kountze, which has knocked Hitchcock out of the playoffs in two of the past three years, including last season.
The co-champions of District 24-3A, Hitchcock is led by the likes of Earnest Triplett and John Scott. Kountze was the runner-up in District 24-3A with a 9-3 record in conference play. Player information for Kountze was not immediately available.
LA MARQUE vs. EAST CHAMBERS
The Cougars will face a daunting task in their regional quarterfinal game 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lee College in Baytown, as they face a Buccaneers team that is an impressive 35-1 on the season.
East Chambers is currently riding a 25-game winning streak following its only loss of the season, which came way back on Dec. 15, 66-65, against Region II-3A power Edgewood (which is 27-1 on the season).
The Buccaneers, champions of District 23-3A with a 14-0 league mark, are led by junior swingman Kordell David and senior guard Kaevon Harmon.
A fresh-faced La Marque (22-11, 11-1 in district) team, co-champions of District 24-3A, is led by junior captain Rha’Sean Booker, sophomore post Willie Johns, sophomore swingman Edward Robinson and sophomore guard Jordan Ivy-Curry, who provides a spark off the bench.
