Beaumont Legacy Christian 7


Four different Broncos combined to rush for five touchdowns as Bay Area Christian ran over Beaumont Legacy Christian Academy (2-4) by a 35-7 count Friday in a TAPPS District 6-III contest.

Matt Merritt led the Bay Area (5-2) ground attack with 162 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Payton Deegan rushed for 57 yards and a score, Parker Bridges ran for 46 yards and a score, Collin Scheuring chipped in with 30 yards on the ground and a score, and Cameron Ball rumbled for 35 yards.

The Broncos amassed a total of 374 rushing yards in the win.

Defensively, Jacob Steihl led Bay Area with a team-high 3.5 tackles, while Kaden Hunt, Peyton Grigsby and Ball each recorded three tackles.

The Broncos return to the field next Friday in Magnolia against Legacy Prep Christian Academy.


Hitchcock 32, Hempstead 6


Hitchcock used a suffocating defense and a run attack led by Xavian Hampton and Pacey Jones to blast past Hempstead on Friday 32-6 for a District 12-3A-I victory.

Hampton ran 12 times for 125 yards with touchdowns of 36 and 2 yards, while Jones gained 93 yards on 15 carries and scored twice on runs of 41 and 3 yards.

Tyger Turner added 54 rushing yards on 12 tries and Drevian Archibald ran 10 times for 48 yards.

Hampton, Jones, Turner and John Paul Lowe all ran in 2-point conversions.

As a team, the Bulldogs (3-3, 2-0) ran for 348 yards and passed for only 3 yards.

Hitchcock’s defense limited the Bobcats (2-4, 0-2) to 76 rushing yards on 20 attempts and 134 yards through the air.

Hitchcock plays again next Friday at home against Hardin.
