Scores and player statistics for area round playoff volleyball matches
Deer Park 3,
Clear Creek 1
The defending regional champion Clear Creek Wildcats saw their 2017 campaign end Thursday night at Clear Falls High School, as the Deer Park Lady Deer logged a 23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-18 area round playoff victory.
Heading up Clear Creek’s attack were Riley Brantley (14 kills), Emma Wagenknecht (13 kills) and Jenna Metzinger (12 kills). Brantley also contributed five blocks.
Leading the defense were Sydney O’Dell (14 digs) and Miranda Phelps (12 digs), and O’Dell also chipped in five aces. Kelsey Childers delivered 36 assists.
Clear Falls 3,
The Clear Falls Knights kept their season alive by rallying from an 0-2 hole in the match to defeat the Kingwood Lady Mustangs by the scores of 21-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-13 and 16-14 in Thursday’s area round playoff contest at Phillips Field House.
Briana Garcia and Mia Johnson led the Clear Falls offense with 20 kills each, while Brianna Daphnis contributed 12 kills. Splitting passing duties were Cassie Srb (30 assists) and Savanna Schaff (26 assists). Srb also had a team-best three aces, and Schaff aided the defense with 18 digs.
Leading the defense was Naomi Jean with 36 digs, while Rachel Brown (seven blocks) and Jordan Dortch minded the net.
The Knights advance to the regional quarterfinals where they will play Deer Park at a time, date and location to be determined.
Friendswood 3, Pasadena Dobie 0
The Friendswood Lady Mustangs cruised to an area round playoff victory over the Dobie Lady Longhorns with a 25-10, 25-19, 25-13 win Thursday at Alvin High School.
Leaders for the Lady Mustangs were Faith Marabella (seven kills), Kylie Lockhart (16 digs), Zeyanna Dhalla (16 assists) and Bri McGown (five aces).
In what should be a premier Region III-6A matchup, Friendswood will face Pearland Dawson in the regional quarterfinals 6 p.m. Monday back at Alvin High School.
High Island 3,
The High Island Lady Cardinals kept their postseason run going strong as they defeated Oakwood by the scores of 26-24, 25-20 and 27-25 in Thursday’s area round playoff match.
Player statistics were not immediately available.
High Island advances to the regional quarterfinals against Spurger on Monday at a time and location to be determined.
