Next week, five Galveston County teams will enter the UIL state volleyball playoffs, while another heads to the TCAL state bracket today.

In UIL Class 6A, District 24-6A champion Friendswood will face District 23-6A fourth-place qualifier Brazoswood in the bi-district round of the playoffs at 6 p.m. Monday at Alvin High School.

District 24-6A’s No. 4 seed Clear Springs will also be in action 6 p.m. Monday in bi-district play, as the Chargers face District 23-6A champion Pearland Dawson at Phillips Field House in Pasadena.

District 24-6A runner-up Clear Falls and third-place finisher Clear Creek will have to wait to learn the identity of their bi-district opponents, but other match details are already locked in. Tied for second in District 23-6A, Pearland and Richmond George Ranch face each other Friday in a playoff seeding tiebreaker.

Whichever District 24-6A team faces George Ranch will play the match 6 p.m. Tuesday at Dawson High School, and the team that plays Pearland will do so 7 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Field House.

In Class 5A, District 23-5A runner-up Santa Fe will face District 24-5A No. 3 seed Houston Waltrip at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Butler Field House.

In the Class 3A TCAL state tournament, which will be held today through Saturday, O’Connell begins play 1 p.m. today against KIPP Houston at the Alamo City All-Stars Sportsplex in San Antonio.
