Houston Heights 56, Clear Creek 21

HOUSTON

A close, back-and-forth game spiraled out of control in the second half, as the Heights Bulldogs defeated the Clear Creek Wildcats on Friday. It was the season opener for Clear Creek.

Clear Creek never led, but hung close to Heights into the third quarter. A first-quarter, 11-yard rushing touchdown by running back Xavier Leal knotted the score 7-7.

Heights pulled ahead by two scores in the third quarter, 28-14, before Clear Creek’s final TD of the game, an 11-yard TD run by Alex Robles, cut the lead to 28-21.

After that, the game was all Heights, as the Bulldogs rattled off 28 unanswered points to close out the game.

Quarterback Sam Mathews led Clear Creek in rushing with 123 yards on 21 carries, while Robles added 77 yards on 14 carries and his two total TDs. Mathews finished the game completing nine of 18 pass attempts for 90 yards, one TD and two interceptions.

The Wildcats will try to pounce back next Friday in a rescheduled game 7 p.m. Friday at Channelview.

Clear Falls 49, Sam Rayburn 0

LEAGUE CITY

The Clear Falls Knights kicked off the 2017 season in dominating fashion Friday with a lopsided 49-0 win over the Sam Rayburn Texans (0-1).

Running back Camron Davis had 10 carries for 82 yards and scored three touchdowns on runs of 32, 3 and 2 yards. Jude Ballew and Dorian Mason each added a rushing touchdown for the Knights.

Quarterback Hayden Johnson was 10 for 15 passing for 160 yards, including a 75-yard scoring pass to Brandon Woodson. Woodson finished the game with four receptions for 115 yards

On defense, Kelvin Odina had an interception en route to the shutout.

The Knights host the Spring Lions (2-0) next Friday.

Bay Area Christian 27, Pasadena First Baptist 15

PASADENA

Collin Scheuring led Bay Area Christian’s multi-head rushing attack Friday in a 27-15 road win against the First Baptist Warriors (1-1).

Scheuring amassed 97 yards on the ground and scored a pair of touchdowns for the Broncos (2-0). Payton Deegan added 24 yards rushing and a score for Bay Area, and quarterback Jacob Stiehl crossed the goal line on a 1-yard sneak. Matt Merritt topped Bay Area with 109 yards rushing.

Defensively, Christian McDonough had a team-high 5 tackles and Austin Taylor added 4.5 tackles.

The Broncos return to the field 2 p.m. September 23 at home against the Tomball Rosehill Christian Eagles (1-1).

Editor’s note: High Island defeated Orange Community Christian, 61-13, but player statistics and game details were not immediately available. The score and details of the O’Connell-KIPP Northeast game were not immediately available.
