The Santa Fe Lady Indians defeated the Galena Park Lady Jackets, 3-2, as the Lady Indians stopped the Lady Jackets seventh-inning rally in a road game Tuesday afternoon.
“I didn’t really have any fears, I knew that Maddy Blake was on today,” said Sante Fe head coach Beth Baros. “It didn’t matter how many errors we made, I knew we were still going to win the game.”
The Lady Indians scored a run in the first inning with an RBI single by Maggie Childs that brought in pinch runner Destinie Reviere. The Lady Indians’ Ryleigh Mata was injured getting back to the base so Reviere came in for her. The Lady Indians had the bases loaded but weren’t able to get another run across. Mata would eventually come back into the game.
The Lady Jackets tied the game in the third inning with a moonshot of a home run to center field by Viviana Alaniz.
The Lady Indians answered right back with two runs of their own. The Lady Indians loaded the bases on back-to-back singles by Childs and Rylie Bouvier. The Lady Indians’ Sierra Cothern would then draw a walk. Reese Reyna would hit a two-RBI single to put them back in the lead.
The Lady Indians’ pitcher Blake got out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning with no outs. She struck out one and induced two pop-ups in the infield.
Blake got out of a bases-loaded jam again in the sixth inning with one out. Blake struck out the next two batters after the bases were loaded to end the inning.
The Lady Jackets tried to rally in the seventh inning, but the Lady Indians were able to get out of the inning allowing just one run.
Lady Indians center fielder Mata lost the ball in the sun, which put the Lady Jackets’ Zoie Garcia on second base. Garcia was brought home by Bailey Richey.
Blake pitched a complete game. giving up two runs and striking out seven.
“She was huge for us today,” said Baros. “She came out and she dominated but she knew she could before the game.”
