It’s desperation time for the Clear Creek Wildcats as they try to get back into playoff contention with the last two weeks in front of them. They’ll take on the Clear Lake Falcons in this week’s District 24-6A contest.
Clear Creek is coming off a 42-7 loss at the hands of the Dickinson Gators from last week.
The Wildcats have lost two consecutive game in district play and now sit in fifth place in the district standings. The Wildcats are 3-4 overall and 2-3 in district play.
Clear Creek quarterback Sam Matthews threw for only 41 yards and one interception in last week’s loss.
Clear Lake enters with a 6-2 overall record and a 4-1 record in district play, sitting at third in the standings.
The Falcons are in a three-way tie for first place with Friendswood and Clear Springs.
Clear Lake handed the Friendswood Mustangs their first loss in district play last week with a 14-10 win.
Santa Fe at Manvel, 7 p.m. today
The Santa Fe Indians will have a tough matchup on their hands as they travel to Class 5A powerhouse Manvel to face the Mavericks on Friday night.
The Indians sit at 5-2 overall and 3-2 in District 23-5A competition. The Mavericks are 7-0 overall and 5-0 in district play and sit alone at the top of the standings in first place in the district.
Santa Fe is outside of the top four, sitting in fifth. The top four teams advance to the state playoffs.
The Indians are coming off a 34-16 win over the Fort Bend Willowridge Eagles last week to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Santa Fe rushed for 221 yards in the game, led by Nicholas McDonald who had eight carries for 113 yards and one touchdown.
The Mavericks are coming off a tough 21-0 win over the Texas City Stings in a game that was fairly close until the fourth quarter.
It was the lowest point total of the season for the Mavericks who were held to only 14 points through the first three quarters.

The Hitchcock Bulldogs remain at the top of the District 12-3A Division I Standings at 3-0 (4-3 overall) after last week’s win over Hardin.
The Bulldogs defeated the Hornets in a 60-0 blowout.
The Bulldogs amassed 516 yards of offense — all on the ground — and limited the Hornets to only 44 yards.
Pacey Jones led the Bulldogs’ ground game with 164 yards total on seven carries, including touchdown runs of 64 and 32 yards.
The East Chambers Buccaneers are second in the district standings at 3-0 (5-2 overall).
East Chambers throttled La Marque last week in a 28-7 win.
La Marque vs. Hempstead,
7:30 p.m. today
The La Marque Cougars are 4-4 overall and 2-1 in district play. They sit at third in the district standings and will take on the fourth-place Hempstead Bobcats.
Hempstead enters with a 3-4 overall record and is 1-2 in district play.
The Bobcats defeated Anahuac last week in a 28-22 win.
La Marque only had 110 yards on 38 carries in last week’s loss to East Chambers.
