A light to moderate southwest wind Tuesday further slowed what has been slow fishing inshore. Recently, there have been some large trout reported; however, the quantities of smaller trout are not up to par with where they should be this time of year.

The best trout fishing has been taking place around deep shell in both Trinity and East bays. The morning tide has been where most of the action took place

While San Luis Pass is holding off-color water, that did not stop Rick Markette from catching trout in the surf. Markette said the key was using croaker for bait.

Night action along Chocolate Bayou above the FM 2004 bridge has been good lately with a variety of fish being taken from around lighted docks. Paul Patterson and Rene Hill fished lighted areas Monday night and landed seven specks and two slot reds using free-lined live shrimp for bait.

Closer to Liverpool, Morgan Stanfield found several flounder feeding around the lights and landed four, three keepers and a throwback.

Jeremy Ebert is well-known in the Galveston area as he set the current state tarpon record with his prized catch from the Galveston Fishing Pier in October 2006. Last week, Elbert and his brother Jacob fished off the Galveston beach front in their boat and raised six tarpon, landing two.

The red-hot offshore action hopefully will be with us through at least Labor Day weekend and possibly longer. Normally, soon after Labor Day, an event such as the first cool front of the season starts scattering our migratory fish.

Kings are the most numerous of the surface fish we catch in the nearshore waters of the Gulf, and they are thick within 12 miles of shore.

The party boat Capt. John had a productive trip to the Heald Bank area Monday where limits of red snapper were caught along with kings, sharks and bluefish.
